How to find joy in the new year.

Happy New Year!! We made it to 2021. I know we were all ready to say goodbye to 2020 with the quickness. It was a crazy year, but we made it though. There were many ups and downs and to some of us, it seemed like things would never get better. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. Here is how to find joy in the new year, even when you may feel like it’s impossible.

How to find joy in the new year

Focus on things that make you happy.

Focusing on the good of things will help you to have a positive mindset. You don’t have to try to block the bad out of your mind, but you definitely do not have to focus on it.

Create new goals

Starting off the new year, we always try to make a new years resolution…and we know how that goes. Instead of the resolution that only lasts for the first two months of the year, try to create short, new goals and really focus on achieving that. Don’t worry about big goals throughout the year just yet. Allow your mind to focus on something small. You will be more productive that way.

Learn something new

Remember that thing you saw that caught your attention and you wanted to know more about it. Now is the time to learn something new. Turn your focus on learning new things and that will help turn your focus away from feeling discouraged about the old things.

Connect with nature

You don’t realize how simply stepping outside to get a breath of fresh air can help to clear your mind. Take a walk, drive in the car, get a little sunshine and admire the beauty of the earth. All this helps you to change your scenery and also moves your mind to a more positive state.

Paint or color

Painting, as well as coloring, has been proven to be very therapeutic. Get yourself some paint or crayons and allow your creativity to take you away for a while.

Use affirmations

Affirmations are really important for changing the mindset. Think it, say it, believe it and live it. Tell yourself daily that you will be happy, you will be prosperous and that this will be a year full of joy! Speak it into existence daily. Celebrate your wins

Definitely don’t forget about your losses, but this is the time to focus on your wins! Look at the positive things that have occurred. Look how blessed you are, in spite of everything that has happened to you. Focus on these things and be grateful for the wins in your life.

Get some good sleep

A restful mind is a lot happier than a restless mind. Allow your body to get some sleep so that you are able to feel and perform better. Getting a good nights rest or a super needed power nap can be a game changer and will help you to feel like a new person.

Smile

Things may not be perfect for you right now, but things will get better and you can assure yourself of this by simply smiling. Excercise your cheek bones and smile. Smiling helps to boost your mood and helps to reduce stress.

Pray

Pray that God gives you a peaceful mindset that will only see, believe and display positivity, even during the rough times. Ask Him to give you a sense of peace that will allow you to get through this year and find the joy in each month.

I pray that these things will help you to find the joy in 2021 that may have been taken away from you in 2020. Increase the positivity, walk in happiness and peace and go get what is yours this year. With hard work, patience and grace, let 2021 know this will be a year full of joy!!
