Making Life Easier

How To Get Through Laundry Day

There are a few jobs around the house that I feel I could just do without from time to time. And let me tell you Laundry is one of them! Of course I love clean clothes, but the process to get there is not always an enjoyable one. It would be so amazing to just snap my fingers and all my clothes would be clean. But the reality is, that won’t happen, so I have to get through laundry day.

I went searching trying to figure out what would make this process easier and more enjoyable. And I have come across a few good tips that have really worked for me.

How to get through laundry day.

Let’s Get Through Laundry Day

1. I Don’t Have A Set Laundry Day

There are too many people in my house to do laundry on just one day. I tried this and the pile up amount is unreal. It’s so many clothes, I could jump in the pile and disappear. This would really overwhelm me because I end up doing laundry all day long and that caused me to hate it. So, now I do a load or two a day. At first I didn’t like the idea of it because that means I’m doing laundry daily. But one to two loads a day beats 10 loads a day.

2. Have A Place To Put The Laundry

Duh!! Right, but really it makes a huge difference. That used to be a problem for me. We have so many clothes that it was hard to close the drawers. Now, I have all these clean clothes and no where to put them. So they end up staying in the basket or folded up on the chair, that eventually gets knocked down on the floor. After I went through the drawers and got rid of all the access clothing we really weren’t wearing, there was room to put away the daily laundry. And that made all the difference for me. I also went and bought super sturdy hangers to utilize the closet space.

3. Wash Each Individuals Clothing Separately

I was totally against this at first, felt it was making my job harder, but I didn’t realize how effective it was. It is so much easier to do one person’s laundry instead of sorting and folding for each size that I pull out the basket. I take the basket to that person’s room, fold their laundry there and put it away. I don’t have to travel through the whole house from room to room to put the clothes away. Saves some energy too.

4. Find The Right Detergent

Nothing is more aggravating than doing laundry only to find the clothes are not clean. I grew up a ""“>Arm & Hammer has done a pretty good job. For stain removal, ""“>Downy Fabric Softner and dryer sheets. The smell is just so fresh and clean. When the clothes look clean and smell fresh, it makes the laundry process worth while.

5. Get Everyone To Help

Getting help from the kids teaches them how to do their own laundry and takes a little stress off yourself. I am teaching the girls how to sort the clothes correctly and how to operate the machine. The little ones can’t really reach the buttons yet, so their favorite part is pouring in the detergent. Once the clothes come out the dryer, I am teaching them how to fold and put away their own clothes. It’s not going to be perfect, but they are learning and they will only get better. And I cannot wait for the day when they will be able to wash, fold and put away their own stuff. (That includes my husband too, but I guess I’ll just keep dreaming on that one. 🤷🏾‍♀️)

An easy way to get through laundry day is to have the kids help. Niya loves being buried in the warm clothes fresh out the dryer before she folds them.

6. Leave the Washing Machine Door Open After Each Load

This will help so you won’t have a smelly washing machine. It allows the washing tub to air dry and prevents mildew. And to be totally honest, because laundry is not my favorite thing to do, I would forget the clothes were in the washing machine and come back two days later to a smelly pile of damp clothes. So Ammonia has been my best friend when that happens. It gets rid of the smell and freshens the machine. But since I started doing a load a day, it helps me to remember to put the clothes in the dryer because I am visiting the machine daily.

Bonus: Do things you love while folding clothes.

Turn on a good t.v. show, crank up the music, or have a heart to heart conversation with your spouse to help the time go by faster. You will be so engaged in this activity, you will be done folding in no time.

And that is how I get through laundry day!! I hope this has helped you and you will try a few of these tips to make the process easier, because although laundry is not my favorite thing to do in the house, it has become a lot more manageable. Talk to you guys soon!!
