Spring Break Activities That Won’t Break The Bank
Spring break is among us!! The weather is beautiful and school is out. You know what that means…we have to do something to keep the kids entertained. One thing that is important to me is having fun, but not breaking the bank. There are so many different, cost effective ideas to do that we often forget about. This spring break doesn’t have to involve traveling, flights and long car rides, it’s okay to keep it simple. Here are a few spring break activities to create memorable fun, but won’t break the bank.
Visit a park.
This is such an easy, free way to burn some energy for the kids. Take them to the park and allow them to run wild. Try going early in the morning when there is not as much traffic to allow them to play on everything without having to wait for the swing or monkey bars. Also, try finding new parks that you haven’t visited yet.
Game Night.
Let the kids choose the game they want to play. If you have more than one child, give each one their own night where they are in charge of what the family plays.
Movies.
There are a few options for this. You can do a movie night, where you cozy up on the couch with popcorn and a blanket. Or you could go to the drive in with the family, but my favorite is the drive-way movie. Open the hatchback of your truck, everyone pile in with blankets and snacks and turn on the laptop for a fun movie experience for free, right in front of your house.
Carnival/Festival/Fair.
Whatever you choose to call it, go enjoy it. With spring break activities in session and summer right around the corner, there will be carnivals with rides, games and great food for the entire family to enjoy.
Paint Party.
Go grab some canvases and paint from the art store or dollar store and sit down as a family and create a master piece. Make some finger food sandwiches and some special punch to drink and enjoy creating together. Let the art dry and then hang it for display. Spin art is really fun too!!
Dance Party.
This can be so much fun, it can last all night. Get a strobe light, or a ring light and change the settings to disco mode, turn the music up super loud and have a party right at home.

Hide and Seek.
Hide and seek is a family favorite in our home. The funny part is the kids love to see their parents try to cram up into small spaces to hide. Be careful, once you start this game, the kids won’t want to stop, but the laughs and memories will last forever.
Star Gaze.
Go outside and look at the stars. Let the kids use their imagination and tell you what star shapes they see. Their responses will make you giggle.
Visit exotic places…in your mind.
Since we are talking about imagination, let’s use it to travel. Have the kids pick a destination and describe what they “see”. While visiting Africa, that huge tree in the back yard just turned into a tall giraffe. The next kid just landed in Antartica and is watching that bush, which is actually a baby polar bear. Using their imagination helps to build creativity and teaches them about different places in the world.
Glow Stick Party.
When it gets dark, grab you some glow sticks and light up the night. Make headbands, bracelets, anklets and necklaces and run around and watch each other glow. If the weather doesn’t permit, you can always keep the fun inside.
Picnic.
Take the family on the classic picnic. Get a blanket, basket full of food and some music and enjoy out doors together.
Bowling and Skating.
These activities are always fun and can be cost effective. There are also some bowling alleys and skating rinks that offer deals where kids can bowl and skate for free. Check your local spots to see if they have programs like these.
Dave & Buster’s.
For the gamers, you can’t go wrong with this place. It actually is a lot of fun for the entire family though. We always make it a full night and have dinner there, too. Dave & Buster’s has really good food and drinks, so the kids and the adults can both enjoy themselves.
National Park/Flower Garden.
Visit a national park or flower garden to enjoy the beautiful spring scenery. Go on a flower tour, visit a waterfall or take a simple hike together. Make sure you bring your camera to capture memorable moments.
I hope this lists helps to give you a few ideas to allow your spring break activities to be enjoyable for both you and the kids. Enjoy the weather, the decreased to do list and tap in to having simple, cost effective fun!!
