My First Time Getting A Full Body Wax
I have been shaving since high school and I have come to the point, where I am just tired of it! I have to shave every two days to get the smooth feeling skin that I want. If not, I’m a walking cactus and that is just not sexy. I’ve contemplated getting waxed for a while, but never made the appointment. But I finally did it!! And this is what I learned from my first wax appointment.
Let’s start from the beginning. Before you get waxed, make sure this is something you really want to do, because this is a painful process. My goal was to feel smoother for a longer period of time, especially on my legs. I wanted to be able to take a shower and not have to incorporate shaving all the time. So, here are a few tips that I learned that may be helpful to you as well.
Let the hair grow out as long as you can!
The longer the hair, the easier it can be removed from the root. This will result in a smoother feel. When the hair is short, wax may not be able to grasp the hair, leaving a slightly stubble feeling.
Exfoliate the day before.
Use a gentle scrub and exfoliate the day before your appointment to help release any dirt and oil. This also helps to unclog pores and remove dead skin. This will give your esthetician a cleaner surface to work with, producing a better waxing experience. Also, don’t put lotion on the day of your appointment. Lotion will create a barrier between the hair and wax and the result won’t be as smooth.
Take some pain meds.
If you are one that finds it hard to deal with pain, take an ibuprofen before your appointment. This will help ease the soreness and make your waxing experience be a little more tolerable.
Don’t wear anything tight to the appointment.
Allow your skin to breathe after being waxed. Also, try not to workout for a few days to decrease the amount of sweat on your freshly waxed skin. This will help to minimize irritation and infection.
This WILL hurt!!!
The pain will be different for each area that you get waxed. I have been getting my eyebrows waxed for a while, so I thought I was ready for it. But honey, let me tell you, it’s an entirely different level of pain!!!! The worst areas for me were my legs and my vaginal area. Ooooooh Weeeeee!!!! I will not steer you wrong and say it’s just a little pain, because it hurts! (Not like child birth, though! Not even close) But my esthetician said the more you do it, the easier it gets.
Exfoliate two days after your wax.
The point of this is to prevent in grown hairs and aid in the smoothness of the skin. Don’t exfoliate right away, because the skin is now fragile and you don’t want to damage it.
So, would I do it again???
Yes! I will go get waxed again. So far, I am really enjoying the smoothness of my skin. Plus, it’s such a relief not to have to shave in the shower all the time. Even though it’s painful, I like the results and feel like the process was worth it.
Cons of waxing?
I actually thought I would get up from the table and every piece of hair would be removed from my body. But that was not the case, I still had stubble on my legs. I asked her to re-wax my legs and she did, but then informed me the stubble is normal. This was the lesson she gave me on my hair. The roots are strong and sometimes do not release the hair as easily as we would like on the first time. Also, there are three stages of hair growth. These stages are the growing stage, the transitional stage and the resting stage.
Using razors can allow your hair to grow in all three stages at the same time. So the stubbles are the small hairs that are big enough to feel, but not long enough yet for the wax to grab. She said it will take a few wax appointments to get the smooth feel that I’m looking for.
She informed me to start a waxing schedule. Get waxed every 4 to 6 weeks to be able to loosen the roots and catch all the hairs. Don’t shave with a razor in between waxes trying to remove the stubbles. This will mess up the growth of the hair and cause the skin to become rough. She assured me, each appointment will get better and I will eventually have the smooth feel I’m looking for after a few visits.
And that’s it!!
I hope this information has really helped, if you are thinking about getting waxed. If you can endure the pain for a few moments, it’s worth it. Also, knowing that it will get smoother each time gives me something to look forward to, because the goal is to have that soft, sexy, baby smooth skin.
