The Ultimate List For Essential Homeschool Supplies
We had orientation this morning for my super excited Pre-K student. Niya was ecstatic to see her new teacher and soon to be friends. With Covid-19 still active, we have decided to homeschool our children until things get a little better. The orientation was held on a zoom call and Niya fully understood she would be able to go to school after corona goes away. She met some new friends and told them she would see them soon. Hopefully Niya will get to spend a little of her Pre-K year in an actual classroom, but until then, I’ll be teaching her at home. In this post, I have included the essential homeschool supplies that will be needed for distant learning students.
Hopefully you have already read the post, Is it safe to send our kids back to school. If not, click the link below. I feel at this time, it’s just too risky. So, if you are sending your kids to school, be sure to read the post to get tips on how to keep your kids as safe as possible when they go back to school. Here’s the link.
Is it safe to send our kids back to school.
Let’s start out by stating the obvious…homeschooling is not easy! I think we all learned that lesson when covid-19 hit us by surprise. It can be very stressful and confusing. The parents and the kids have to adjust to a new way of living and learning. But I found with schedules and the right supplies, it can get easier.
List Of Essential Homeschool Supplies
It will vary for different grade levels, but overall these supplies are all pretty much needed.
For Writing
- Pens
- Pencils
- Erasers
- Paper (Lined)
- Paper (Blank)
- Crayons
- Markers
Make sure that your kids have the supplies to get work done as well as to just be creative. Most kids love to draw and having blank paper and cool crayons and markers is a great way for them to let all the creative juices flow.

- Spiral Notebooks
- A crate to store everything in
Being organized is key to being effective in homeschooling, especially if this is a new journey for you. Having a cute space to hold everything together and make it easily accessible is a game changer. Sure beats having to look for everything all the time.
For Art
- Bottle of Glue
- Glue Stick
- Tape
- Scissors
- 3 Hole Punch
- Paint
Be sure to incorporate some art into your child’s learning day. These are the basic supplies that can help them create cute projects right at home.
Extras
- Dry Erase Board
- Dry Erase Markers
- A Dry Eraser
- Headphones or Earbuds
- Pencil Sharpener
- Books for all levels
- Flash Cards
- Ruler
- Clip board
- Highlighters
- Calculator (For the older kids)
- Laptop/Ipad/Kindle
These are extras, but are definitely essential homeschool supplies. The boards can be used for visual lessons and the kids enjoy practicing writing their letters and numbers on them. Use the headphones for listening to stories and of course you will need books, flash cards and highlighters. Electronics are ideal for learning lessons, playing games and utilizing educational apps.
Super Extra
- This is actually not essential, because the kids can learn without it. But if you want to be fancy, get the kid’s a desk, it can be very beneficial to the learning environment. If there is no room for a desk in your house, the kitchen and dining room table will serve the same purpose.
