Is It Safe To Send Your Kids Back To School

My county has just released the information that school will be open and back in full effect for this coming school year, despite the craziness of Covid-19. School will begin August 3rd, 2020 and they are encouraging students to be ready and excited to learn and have fun this school year. But is it safe to send your kids back to school?

As a parent that loves their children dearly, I can say with no remorse…..If the kids aren’t ready to go back to school, I know I’m ready to send them!! Ya’ll know I love my kids and have been grateful for the time that we have been joined at the hip these past 4 or 5 months. But mommy needs a break. I was looking forward to marching my little munchkins right through those school doors this fall and running away with the excitement of freedom for a few hours. I never wanted to be a homeschool teacher and not really looking forward to the journey. But as the time gets closer and the virus keeps striking, I’ve decided for my kids and my family, it is not safe to send my kids back to school just yet.

Is it safe to send your kids back to school during covid-19?

Why I Think It’s Not Safe To Send Your Kids Back To School Just Yet.

Every state is different, but in Georgia, we have recently been placed back on a phase one reopening guideline. They are encouraging face masks to be worn at all times, only to leave the house for essential needs and to close the dining room areas of restaurants again. With this being the case, that means the virus is still out and still affecting people. According to Atlanta news, there were 5,000 new cases of Covid-19 reported last week alone. So saying all of this, let’s relate this information to children.

1.Children are the most adorable, loving, GERMY people on the earth.

They sneeze in the air, cough in your face, spit when they talk and wipe boogers and snot on anything close to them. Sounds like a great way to pass on the virus.

2. The face masks may be a requirement, but will the kids really keep them on.

It’s can be hard to keep your eyes on all the kids at all times. And as soon as the teacher turns her back, “Johnny” has taken off his mask because it was hot and sneezed all in “Brandy’s” face. “Brandy” is grossed out and pulls her mask off to tell “Johnny” he is nasty as he accidentally coughs…..all in her face. Lol. Sounds funny right, but you know that’s what kids do. So, it will be difficult to keep everyone protected.

3. Can you really keep kids 6 feet apart.

Kids are lovable and do not understand the importance of social distancing as well as adults do. And it can even be tough for adults to social distance at times, too. So you are telling me, these kids that have not seen their friends and teachers in almost 5 months can be put back in the same room and not touch each other? That’s like putting candy in front of them and saying don’t eat it. Lots of kids will fail that test. And that’s not their fault, we all need physical touch.

4. Children are asymptomatic

Most kids show no signs of the virus, therefore how do we get an accurate count of how bad the virus really is around us? We can’t. So therefore how do you know if it’s getting better or worse? We can’t.

I don’t think it’s safe to send your kids back to school just yet, but I understand everyone does not have that option.

Some parents have to go to work and they do not have a job that is allowing them to work from home or showing them grace and compassion through this pandemic. So if you are a parent in this situation here are some things to try.

What to do if you must send your kids back to school.

Kids are ready, but is it safe to send your kids back to school just yet?

1. Constantly pray over your children.

I believe in the power of prayer and the effect it has. If your children have to be in the school building, pray for their health and safety daily. We should be doing this everyday, if our kids are in or out of school. There is too much happening in this world, not to pray over them all.

2. Explain the importance of face masks and handwashing.

Let your children know that no matter what your friends do, you keep your mask on. Try to get them to understand the importance the best way you can. (Even if you have to bribe them!) Stress the importance of hand washing. The best way to do this is to demonstrate these techniques at home. Kids do what they see and parents are the best examples. So show those babies how to wash hands properly and wear masks when in public.

3. Avoid sending the kids on the bus if you can.

Bus drivers will try their best to enforce social distancing, but this may not always be possible depending on the number of the kids riding the bus. So if you can, drive your child to and from school everyday to prevent the lack of social distancing.

4. Step up your disinfecting game and build the immune system.

As soon as the kids get home, wash hands and disinfect their belongings. Spray belongings down with lysol. Have kids shower and change clothes immediately so they are not bringing the virus in the house. Don’t allow them to come into the house and flop all over the furniture. Make sure the children are getting an adequate amount of sleep, taking their vitamins to build the immune system and eating nutritional foods.

I recently told my kids they would not be going back to school just yet and they were not happy. I told them imagine how Mommy feels. Lol

But in all seriousness, our jobs as parents are to protect our children the best way we can. And when we can’t protect them, we must ask God to step in and handle it for us.

I hope we can all get back to a sense of normalcy real soon and all kids can enjoy being back in school again. But until then, I wish the best for you and your children for this upcoming school year, no matter what decision you make. If the kids are in the school building or at home learning, I pray it’s a safe, healthy and blessed school year for you all.
