Do I Stay Fit or Stay Fly?
I have been hitting the gym really hard lately and I love it. When that music gets to bumping, my trainer gets to yelling and I begin sweating, I feel like I can take over the world. And then the gym has the nerve to have a mirror so I can watch myself the whole time. I do a few burpees, knock out a few squats and then dance in the mirror before my trainer catches me. I absolutely love the gym. The problem is my hair.
I sweat so badly in my head that after one workout session, my hair is a done deal. My hair is natural, meaning there are no chemicals or relaxers in my hair, so the shrinkage and curl up are real. I could have a beautiful silk press, which leaves my hair long, straight and silky and by the time I’m done at the gym it has turned into a short curly puff. I make sure I wrap it as best as I can to try to preserve the style while at the gym, but girl…that does not work. It is so frustrating. Of course my husband sees me as soon as I walk in the house from the gym, points to my head and lovingly asks me…soooo…..what you gone do with that? I laugh and punch him (lovingly of course ππ) and tell him don’t hate on my fitness journey.
I have tried braids, wigs, sew ins, natural styles and everything else I could think of that may work for my hair. But once that sweat hits my scalp, there is no mercy for my cute little hair style. I work out Monday through Friday, so I usually wear a slick ponytail through the week. It’s not the cutest, but it gets the job done for me to go the the gym and not look like I stuck my finger in a socket. I wear my hair like this on gym days and then get cute on the weekend, but I want to be cute on weekdays too. I tried straightening my hair more often through the week, but that got old real quick.
I didn’t want to be busted for the holidays, so I got my hair braided about a month ago and I love how it turned out. I didn’t want to go to the gym and stink up my braids with sweat or make them fuzzy too soon after just getting them done, so I took a break from the gym. Now, I have a dilemma. Do I stay fit or maintain my hairstyle so I can stay fly? I need to be able to do both, but it’s a struggle. How do I maintain my hair and still go to the gym? I even tried to find effective exercises that won’t make you sweat. No success yet, for the results I want.
So ladies, my question is which one is more important to you? Being fit or being fly? Keeping your body slayed or keeping your hair layed? Or are you able to do both? Let me know in the comments below. If you have tips that can help me, let a sista know. Love ya!
